Subtracting polynomials is very similar to adding polynomials, in the sense that all consists of is combining like terms, but this time, with a minus sign. For example,
Simplify (2x+5) - (x-3):
First, distribute the -1 to x-3:
(2x + 5) + (-x + 3)
Then remove parentheses to get:
2x + 5 + -x + 3
or
2x - x + 5 + 3
Lastly, combine like terms to get an answer of:
x + 8
